Junior Professorship for Biomedical Plasma Technology
Jun. Prof. Dr. Andrew R. Gibson is the head of the Research Group for Biomedical Plasma Technology. Research in this group focuses on the application of plasmas for a healthy society. This is a highly interdisciplinary field with potential applications ranging from cancer therapy to the inactivation of harmful microorganisms to the use of plasma processing to produce biocompatible surfaces. These applications typically rely on the unique chemical and physical properties of plasma sources. The core research expertise of the group concerns the characterization of these properties, with an emphasis on plasma chemistry, using a combination of numerical simulations and experimental measurements. To derive deeper insights into wide array of applications, close collaborations exist with academics and clinicians in a number of Faculties at the RUB, such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Medicine as well as other Universities and research institutes.
